Post-Remediation Verification & Clearance Testing
What Is Post-Remediation Verification?
After a remediation contractor removes mold and cleans the affected area, post-remediation verification confirms that the work was done correctly. This is important because visible mold may be gone but airborne spore levels may still be elevated, or hidden moisture may remain that could support future growth. PRV provides documented evidence that the area is safe for occupancy.
PRV is performed by an independent third party — not the remediation contractor — to ensure an unbiased assessment. SporaScope Environmental does not perform remediation, so we have no conflict of interest in verifying whether the work was effective.
What PRV Includes
A standard post-remediation verification includes a visual inspection of the remediated area to confirm that visible mold has been removed, building materials have been properly cleaned or replaced, and the moisture source has been addressed. Air and/or surface samples are then collected and compared to baseline or outdoor levels.
- Visual inspection of the remediated area
- Confirmation that the moisture source has been addressed
- Air sampling to verify indoor spore levels have returned to normal
- Surface sampling to confirm visible mold has been removed
- A written clearance report documenting the findings
Why PRV Matters
The EPA and industry guidelines recommend post-remediation verification to confirm that mold cleanup has been effective. Without PRV, there is no documented evidence that the remediation was successful. This documentation is important for property owners, landlords, real estate transactions, and insurance purposes. It also provides peace of mind that the indoor environment is safe for occupants.
