Mold Testing in Northern Illinois
When to Consider Mold Testing
Mold testing may be appropriate in several situations. If you see visible growth, smell a persistent musty odor, have experienced water damage or a leak, or are buying or selling a home, testing can confirm whether a mold problem exists and how significant it is. Testing is also useful after remediation to verify that the cleanup was effective.
- After water damage, a pipe leak, or flooding
- When you see visible discoloration or growth on walls, ceilings, or floors
- When a persistent musty or earthy odor is present
- Before purchasing a home, especially one with a history of water issues
- When a tenant, family member, or employee reports unexplained symptoms
- After mold remediation to confirm the area has been returned to a normal condition
What Mold Testing Includes
A typical mold testing appointment includes a visual inspection of the property, collection of air and/or surface samples, and submission of those samples to an independent laboratory for analysis. You receive a written report identifying the mold species found, their concentration levels, and whether conditions fall within a normal indoor range.
- Visual inspection of suspected areas and moisture sources
- Air sampling using spore trap cassettes to measure airborne spore levels
- Surface sampling (swab or tape lift) to identify visible growth
- Laboratory analysis by an independent accredited lab
- A clear written report with findings and recommended next steps
Independent, Third-Party Testing
SporaScope Environmental is an independent testing company. We do not perform mold remediation or repair work, and we do not profit from the results of our testing. This means our assessments are objective — if mold is not present, we tell you. If it is, we document what we find and explain what the results mean in plain language.
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) notes that mold growth can occur anywhere moisture is present and recommends addressing the moisture source as the key step in preventing mold. Professional testing helps identify the scope of a problem before remediation begins and confirms that remediation was successful after it is complete.
